Carpetball

Every trip we take to Guatemala we have different and new experiences. This past trip we took is no exception. So our next few blogs are going to be about some of those experiences.

Many of you visited our house in Omaha and played or witnessed carpetball. Others grew up at Pine Lake Camp or attended family camp there and played carpetball there. For those of you that have no idea what carpetball is, there is a picture below. There are 5 pool balls placed in specific spots at each end and each player tries to knock off the other player's balls with a cue ball. The first to knock all 5 balls off is the winner.

Well, we want you to know that there are now carpetball games in Cameroon, West Africa and Guatemala. Many years ago missionary friends of ours took the plans for carpetball back to Cameroon with them and made a game for the kids there. They didn't have any carpet so they ended up using an oriental rug to carpet it with. It was the fanciest carpetball we had ever seen!

This past summer our friends Steve and Sally Frick led a team to Guatemala and while there they built a carpetball game. So while we were there over New Year's we got to see their handiwork and play the game with the staff and kids. They love it! Who knew carpetball could be an international game!
